Downed Wires Cause Smoking Brush Fire In Northern Westchester A Northern Westchester road was briefly closed after downed power lines sparked a brush fire that sent a plume of smoke into the air.  The incident happened on Wednesday, Aug. 16 around 10 a.m., when crews were sent to Lake Road in Somers for a reported brush fire, according to the Somers Volunteer Fire Department.  Arriving firefighters then confirmed that a blaze had been ignited by downed wires and had New York State Electric & Gas de-energize the lines while they briefly closed the road.  Crews were then able to work toward putting out the fire, which took around an …

Vehicle Crashes Into Woods, Flips On Its Side In Northern Westchester A roadway had to be briefly closed as crews responded to a crash that left a vehicle flipped on its side in the woods in Northern Westchester.  The incident happened on Saturday, June 10 around 3:15 p.m. in Somers when first responders were sent to the intersection of Lake Road and Orchard Hill Road for a reported crash, according to the Somers Volunteer Fire Department.  There, crews found the vehicle off the roadway in the woods, where it was flipped on its side.  First responders then evaluated the driver, who had been able to escape the car on their own, and found that t…
