NY State Announces Steps To 'Safely Close' Indian Point Nuclear Power Facility
New York is moving forward with its plan to dismantle and decommission the Indian Point nuclear power facility in the Hudson Valley. Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced a joint proposal on Thursday, April 15 with Holtec International and its subsidiaries to "safely close Indian Point” located in Buchanan, in Northern Westchester near the Putnam County border. New York State Attorney General Letitia James has expressed “multiple, grave concerns” about the decommissioning of Indian Point Energy Center in Westchester. Entergy Corporation has asked for approval to transfer the license of Indian Point Energy Center, officials say. A License Transfer Application was filed with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission through the affiliates of Entergy Corporation and Holtec International on Friday, Nov. 22. The application requests approval for the transfer of the NRC licenses for the Indian Point Energy Center to Holtec following the permanent shut down of the last unit by April 30, 2021. Legislation to protect the more than 1,100 jobs at the Indian Point nuclear power plants when they are permanently shut down is closer to law. State Sen. Pete Harckham announced on Thursday, June 6 that his bill to help protect Indian Point workers was passed by the state Senate. Entergy Agrees To Indian Point Energy Center Post-Shutdown Sale
Entergy Corp. agreed to sell the subsidiaries that own Indian Point Units 1, 2, and 3, located in Buchanan, to a Holtec International subsidiary for decommissioning.
