Record Travel Expected This Thanksgiving: Here Are Best, Worst Times To Hit Road
Expect plenty of company on the roads as you head to grandma’s house. A record 79.9 million travelers are expected to head 50 miles or more from home over the Thanksgiving holiday travel period, AAA forecasts. That’s up 1.7 million over last year. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced that it will be extending its national COVID-19 face mask requirements inside public transportation hubs and vehicles. The TSA announced on Thursday, March 10 that it will be extending its mask requirement for airports, planes, buses, and rail systems through Monday, April 18, effectively covering most schools’ scheduled spring break holidays. 19: Here's How Much MTA Riders Can Now Be Fined For Not Wearing Face Coverings
Mask up, or pay up. Riders using public transportation in New York will now face fines if they fail to adhere to the state’s mandate of wearing a face covering. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that the MTA will be issuing $50 fines to anyone who fails to wear a facemask on New York City subways and buses, Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road cars. The new emergency order took effect on Monday, Sept. 14. Mask compliance will be enforced by MTAPD, NYPD, and Bridge and Tunnel officers. The MTA is doubling down on cleaning efforts as ridership continues to decline due to the outbreak of COVID-19. With thousands of people in mandatory or precautionary quarantine, and thousands more ordered to work from home to help stop the spread of the virus, MTA has seen a sharp decline in ridership.
