Fire Breaks Out At House In Northern Westchester A home with an expansive view of the Hudson River was damaged by a fire that started in the chimney chase, according to the Mohegan Volunteer Fire Department. The fire started around 12:10 a.m. Thursday at the home on Forest Avenue in Cortlandt, the department said.  Upon arrival, firefighters found an active fire visible from the wood chimney chase on the exterior of the home. With fire showing, a first alarm was issued.  Due to the home being setback from the roadway access to the fire hydrant, hose lines had to be stretched and firefighters had to utilize a 24-foot extension ladder whil…

House Fire Breaks Out At Building In Northern Westchester Volunteers with the Peekskill Ambulance Corps helped with two Westchester County fires over the past week, including one at an abandoned house.The fire, at 928 Second St., in Peekskill, broke out about 5 a.m. Thursday, officials said. About 40 firefighters responded to the scene, which kept the ambulance corps busy provided cold water to keep them hydrated, said the ambulance corps on Facebook.
