Lombardi Homer Carries Fox Lane Softball to Win

BEDFORD, N.Y. — Fox Lane High faced an early four-run deficit in its Section 1 Class AA Softball Championship first-round game Friday against North Rockland.

The Foxes may have been down, but they were not out. They rallied to within a run, then Allison Lombardi delivered a crushing blow. The senior ripped a two-out, three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning, sending the fourth-seeded Foxes to a 6-5 win over the 13th-seeded Red Raiders.

Fox Lane will host No. 5 Carmel, a 2-0 winner over No. 12 Clarkstown North, in a quarterfinal Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

"The girls showed a lot of character, battling back to take the lead," Fox Lane coach Anthony Rodrigues said.

The Foxes scored three runs in the third before Lombardi's mammoth home run. She finished with four RBIs.

Alexis Bazos went the distance for Fox Lane. Isabella Rago had two hits and drove in a run.
