Foxes Bucked by Rams at Memorial Stadium, Lose 4-0

Bedford, NY-- The Fox Lane boys soccer team hosted the talented Port Chester Rams on Saturday and came away with a 4-0 loss at Fox Lane Memorial Stadium. The Rams were lead by a two-goal performance by senior captain Bryon Coyt.

The match was evenly played through the beginning of the first half, but once the fine-tuned play of the Rams began to click, there was no looking back for Port Chester.

On the soggy field, senior Felipe Campos lead off the scoring charge with a boot from well outside the box that skipped on the wet turf and into the back of the net at 29:48. Teammate and captain Kevin Riveros, the active and quick-footed forward, struck next at 18:27 with a sensational strike from nearly twenty yards out, putting the score at 2-0.

The start of the second half marked the beginning of two solid performances on both sides of the ball, one coming from Coyt and the other by whom he beat twice.

For the Rams, Coyt landed two shots in the netting to increase the score to 4-0. Goalie Nick Shkreli of Fox Lane held his own, though, and stopped an abundance of strikes due to solid placement between the pipes. The game ended with a breakaway by two Rams looking to pad the score, but Shkreli broke out of the box and made a sliding stop as time expired to keep the score at 4-0.

After the game, coach JR Pouncey noted Shkreli’s performance.

“He’s done a great job. He reads the game well; he plays high so he eats up a lot of breakaways,” coach Pouncey said. “He positions himself well and makes a lot of great saves. We’re very fortunate to have him in there.”

The next game for the Foxes will be on Monday at Harrison High School, starting at 4:00 PM.
