Fox Lane's Pasqualini Drilling at Wrestling Camp

SOMERS, N.Y. -- Matt Pasqualini had a successful junior year on the wrestling mat for Fox Lane, but it did not finish the way he envisioned.

Pasqualini was the 2011 Section 1 large-school 145-pound runner-up. The loss in the final still bothers him and it is one he wants to reverse next year.

The Fox Lane senior-to-be took another step in that direction by attending the Iowa Style Wrestling School camp, featuring Binghamton University Coach Pat Popolizio and four of his wrestlers. The camp ran Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Along with working with the college wrestlers, Pasqualini drilled with teammates Giancarlo Morreale and Danny Ventura.

“Getting to work with college wrestlers shows me what it will be like at the next level and what it will take to get to the next level,” Pasqualini said. “Watching them shows me how hard they work.”

Pasqualini and Morreale were going at it hard, under the tutelage of a Binghamton wrestler.

“They showed me how to drill more effectively, and to move better and faster,” Pasqualini said. “They also showed me how to hand fight better and to create more openings for my shots. I feel I have made a big improvement with that this week.”
