Fox Lane Coach Amuso Going for 400th Win

BEDFORD, N.Y. -- Danny Ventura was a seventh-grader and new to wrestling when he learned that Fox Lane Middle School Physical Education teacher Joe Amuso would retire from his teaching position at the end of the year.Ventura immediately became concerned.“I was hoping that he was still going to be the varsity wrestling coach,” Ventura recalled.Ventura was pleased to hear that Amuso would continue in the one position that has made him a coaching legend and the dean of Section 1 wrestling coaches. Now in his 41st year, Amuso will be going for another milestone -- his 400th win -- when Fox Lane hosts Clarkstown South Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.“With the foundation that coach has built, he is like the whole wrestling program,” Ventura said. “This would mean a lot to us, especially the seniors, to get coach this win. We missed out on it last week so this gives us a chance to fix things and get it for coach. We want to get this and make it the most memorable year he has had.”
