Croton Hosting Its 35th Wrestling Tournament

The snowstorm Saturday forced the postponement of the four scheduled wrestling tournaments - Edgemont, Croton, Nanuet and Kohl (at Suffern) -to Sunday.

Croton will be hosting his 35th Croton Dual-Meet tournament. This is coach Sam Occhipinti’s 25th year with the tournament.

He and his team welcome Sleepy Hollow, coached by Brian Tompkins, who was Occhipinti’s high-school coach, Ardsley, Clarkstown North, Irvington, John Jay-Cross River, Pleasantville, Port Chester and the host. Wrestling is scheduled to begin, 9 a.m. with the championship round going around 3 p.m.

The 30th annual Edgemont Tournament has a field of 18 teams, spanning the public, Catholic and private schools. The teams competing are: Collegiate, Eastchester, Horace Mann, Mamaroneck, Monticello (Section 9), Mount Vernon, New Fairfield (Ct.), Pawling, Pearl River, Rye, Rye Country Day School, Salesian, Scarsdale, Tuxedo (Section 9), Westlake, Woodlands, Yonkers and the host. Edgemont coach Pete Jacobson said wrestling will commence, 9 a.m.

Dobbs Ferry, Hen Hud, Somers and Yorktown will be crossing the Tappan Zee Bridge for the Kohl Tournament at Suffern High School. The remainder of the field includes East Ramapo, Nyack, Monroe-Woodbury and Port Jervis (both Section 9), Bethpage (L.I.), Huntington (L.I.) and the host. Wrestling will go, 9:30 a.m. The finals are scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Coach Dan Belfi will take his Lakeland/Panas team to Nanuet for its Dual-Meet tournament.
