Bedford Hills' Bronico Works Constellation Seniors

RYE, N.Y. – Lou Bronico’s home away from home is the 10th hole at the Westchester Country Club, where the Bedford Hills resident was perched beneath a shade tree guiding spectators as a volunteer at the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship Wednesday.

“I’ve been volunteering here for 32 years,” said Bronico, an avid golf fan and former football player at Tuckahoe High School in his early days. “I was here at the 10th for many years with the Westchester Classic and now here with the Seniors. I like this spot.”

The Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship is the fifth and final of the Seniors Tour major events for the season and is being hosted at Westchester Country Club for the first time. PGA greats including Tom Watson, Ben Crenshaw, Fred Couples and defending champion Mark O’Meara are competing.

Bronico and his friend Bob Volz from upstate New Windsor manned the 10th hole in the early hours of the Pro-Am event Wednesday, joining more than 700 other volunteers who will work the tournament this week.

“If you love golf and have watched these great older players, this is a good place to see them up close,” said Bronico, whose white tournament cap was autographed with names such as Watson and Couples with the prospect of more to come through the week.

“All the big names come by. We saw Mark Calcavecchia, who I’ve seen for years on television." he said. "He looked real good, slimmed down a lot. Seeing them play in person is always fun.”

Individual daily and weekly tickets to the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship are now on sale. Those wishing to purchase tickets to the Championship can do so by logging on to the official tournament website, www.ceseniorplayers.com, or by calling the championship office at 914-481-5900.
