Yorktown Tech Center Grads Celebrate Success

Over 500 students graduated from the Putnam Northern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services  (BOCES) Technology Center in Yorktown last week.

Tuesday night, students from 18 local districts graduated and celebrated their successes after studying programs such as baking and pasty arts, culinary arts, animation and motion graphics.  Students also graduated from the New Visions honors program branch of the school in topics such as education, environmental science and health.

Students graduating said they have an extra edge and are “a step ahead” after enrollment and completion of the program.

“We have skills, knowledge and experience but most of all, we have passion,” said Hayley Ruotolo, a Briarcliff High School student who will attend the Culinary Institute of America in the fall.

Students in the program often are a few steps ahead when they enter college, as many of them graduate from their respective programs with up to 15 college credits.

Kimberly Snyder, who plans to attend Cornell University in the fall, said she and her peers had the capability after attending the program to take on the future problems that our world faces.

“The problems facing the world are numerous…but we have the skills, talent and imagination to tackle [them] head-on,” she said. Snyder is a graduate of Ossining High School and was a New Visions Environmental Science student.
