LEWISBORO – The Katonah-Lewisboro School District Board of Education officially introduced its new superintendent of schools this week.

The board has named Dr. Paul Kreutzer, 39, to take over the helm of the school district.

Kreutzer grew up in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisc., and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh. He received his master’s degree at Marian College and his doctorate from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

Kreutzer became a school principal at the age of 25 and then was named superintendent of the North Lake School District in Wisconsin at the age of 29, making him the youngest superintendent in the state at the time. Most recently he was superintendent for the New Berlin School District in Wisconsin before deciding to move to New York.

“I was being recruited by a few headhunting firms and was introduced to the New England/New York area,” Kreutzer said. “The more I visited [the area], the more I liked it. We thought [Katonah/Lewisboro] was the best fit. We were impressed with the district at large.”

Kreutzer is married to his wife of 15 years, Amy, who is a special education teacher, and they have a six-year-old daughter, Kennedy.

Kennedy is part of the reason Kreutzer decided to uproot the family and move from Wisconsin to New York.

“We wanted the best opportunity for our daughter,” he said.

Kreutzer and his family are big fans of outdoor recreation, such as boating, fishing, backpacking and camping – another reason they fell in love with northern Westchester County.

“We were struck by the natural beauty,” said Kreutzer, who bought a house in the Truesdale Lake region of Lewisboro. “We were impressed with the sense of community and child-centered values – the honoring of the ecology and the environmental sensibilities."

Kreutzer is still bringing of piece of Wisconsin with him: He remains a loyal Green Bay Packer fan and knows he’ll have to endure some good-natured ribbing from Jet and Giant supporters.

“I would, however, like to point out I am acclimating to Yankee fandom,” he said. “I’ve been to several games already this year.”
