West Patent Elementary to Remain Closed Wednesday, Rest of Bedford Schools Reopen

BEDFORD, N.Y. – The schools in the Bedford Central School District reopen on Wednesday with the exception of West Patent Elementary, according to superintendent Jere Hochman.

The schools re-opening include Fox Lane High School, Fox Lane Middle School, Bedford Hills Elementary, Bedford Village Elementary, Mount Kisco Elementary, and Pound Ridge Elementary.

On Tuesday, a statement from Hochman said West Patent still has problems regarding power as of Tuesday afternoon.

"One phase of electrical power going into West Patent is still not up and we are hopeful Con Edison will be able to sort out the issue today," he said. "We will keep West Patent families informed with more information tonight or Wednesday morning."

The following information also relates to Bedford schools:

  • Sporting events originally scheduled for Monday or Tuesday are being rescheduled throughout the rest of this week.
  • Steve Marcisz, the Fox Lane High School's coordinator of guidance, said the school has had some issues with the Nov. 1 early college admissions deadline. He said the guidance office has in contact with the necessary colleges and universities, however, there were some missteps. "There are some situations where documents such as a recommendation from a counselor or teacher were unavailable to send to colleges due to the vast power failure in the region," the Marcisz said. "Upon return to school, each senior student with a November 1 deadline should report to guidance to discuss the matter with the counseling staff and ensure everything is in good order."
