Kennedy's Bedford Estate For Sale For $4 Million

BEDFORD, N.Y. ? The Bedford estate where Mary Richardson Kennedy committed suicide on May 16 has been put on the market for $4 million.

The 10,000-square-foot home is described as “state-of-the-art and eco-friendly" in the listing posted Monday on the Ginnell Real Estate website by agent Muffin Dowdle.

Kennedy, an architect, designed and built the home herself in 2008, calling it The Green House. Kennedy was committed to environmental sustainability, as was her estranged  husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who serves as chief attorney for the environmental organization Riverkeeper.

The 14-room home features "geothermal heating and cooling, energy-efficient appliances and fiber-optic lighting" and a swimming pool. It sits on 10 acres on Howland Pond and has a Mount Kisco postal address.

The house, according to the listing, is "exquisitely finished using recycled or reclaimed materials, including interior doors, hardware and Carrera marble."

At the time of her death, Kennedy, 52, was in the middle of a contentious divorce with her husband of 16 years. He charged that her substance abuse was one of the reasons he filed for divorce.
