On Dec. 6, 2012, the Bedford Police Department received a report that Fidel Angel Cardona allegedly entered the residence of his ex-girlfriend in Katonah, where her 16-year-old daughter was asleep in bed.
According to police, Cardona proceeded to commit a lewd sexual act, which awoke the sleeping teen, before he fled the scene. An arrest for Cardona was issued in January 2013, and since then, Bedford Police Department detectives - with an assist from the Westchester County Police Fugitive Task Force and U.S. Marshall Service - have been working to locate him.
Late last year, Detective Joe Comunale was able to track down Cardona through social media, where he was located in Virginia, police said. Comunale then discovered that his suspect had moved to South Carolina, where he was taken into custody. He was held there until his extradition.
Police said that Cardona was held in South Carolina until Friday, March 17, when he was indicted by a grand jury in Westchester County and transported back to New York by the Westchester County Police Fugitive Task Force.
Cardona was charged with second-degree burglary, third-degree sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal contempt. He was processed at Bedford Police Headquarters on Thursday, March 30 and is currently being held at the Westchester County Jail. He is due back in court later this year.
