WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Bedford Police received half a dozen calls of a moose in the vicinity of Bedford Road and Harris Road, according to Police Officer John Moylan.
The first calls, which were from passing drivers, came in on Wednesday morning at around 6:45 a.m. and about 7:30 a.m.
Moylan said that a photo of the moose confirmed its presence. He also told Daily Voice that he found moose tracks.
It is believed that the sightings were of the same moose, according to Moylan.
The moose's presence is not an issue for the public to be concerned about, the officer added.
Daily Voice also received word of a moose sighting in Millwood by a resident of the hamlet. The sighting occurred at around 2:30 a.m. Thursday. Check back for more information on the new sighting.
Moose sightings are extremely rare in southern New York. There are only an estimate 800 moose in the state, with most located far upstate near the Canadian and Vermont borders. Unlike deer, moose do not form herds and are solitary animals, adding to the likelihood the same moose was spotted in both Bedford and Millwood.
