The New York State Accreditation Program consists of 133 standards in the areas of administration, training and operations that must be met in order for an agency to maintain accredited status. Compliance with the standards ensures that a police department conforms to best practices within the profession.

“Maintaining our accredited status ensures that we are providing our community with the best possible service and that we are prepared to adapt to the needs of  the future,” said Bedford Police Chief William Hayes.

The Bedford Police Department has been accredited since 1999, and this is the third time the  agency has been re-accredited.

The following attended the ceremony to accept the re-accreditation were:

Lt. Edward Collins, Bedford Police Department Accreditation Program Manager; Lt. Jeffrey Dickan and Lt. Melvin Padilla, Bedford Police Department; Accreditation Council Chairman Chief Michael Ranalli, Glenville Police Department; Chief William Hayes;  and Michael Green, executive deputy commissioner of the NY State Division of Criminal Justice Services.
