BEDFORD, N.Y. - Bedford Police have arrested a Bedford Hills man on multiple sex charges following a nearly five-month investigation.
A Bedford Hills woman, 19, reported the incident in January, police said, and the investigation that followed was concluded with the arrest at 4:30 p.m. June 7 at police headquarters.
The woman told police that Joseph Sorrentino, an acquaintance, had sex with her while she was sleeping and was unable to consent, police said.
Police charged Sorrentino, 22, with second-degree sexual abuse based on a factor other than age, and sexual misconduct/intercourse without consent, both misdemeanors.
Sorrentino was released on his own recognizance and will return to Bedford Town Court on June 14.
The following items were also reported in the Bedford police blotter:
- Jonathan Rivera, 27, of Bedford, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon after being pulled over June 8 while driving through Bedford Hills. Bedford Police said they pulled him over on South Bedford Road at 4:19 p.m. and saw that his car had an expired inspection sticker. Police said officers observed a pair of nunchuks, the Asian martial arts weapon, on the back floorboard of the car. Rivera said he did not know that the weapon was in the car, police said. He was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor, and was released on his own recognizance. Rivera was also issued tickets for the expired sticker as well as missing registration. He will return to Bedford Town Court on June 21.
- A couple called Bedford Police on June 10 to report that they had identified a former houseguest who stole their jewelry, police said. They called around 4:30 p.m. after coming across the man as he walked down Milan Avenue wearing three pieces of their jewelry: a ring valued at $150, a necklace valued at $120 and a bracelet valued at $60, police said. In February, police said, the couple noticed five pieces of jewelry missing from their apartment, and had asked the man about it. According to police, the couple also said they left phone messages that were never returned. The man did not admit to stealing the three items but told police he bought them on the street in Mount Kisco at an earlier date, police said. Darwin Daniel Vasquez-Lopez, 25, of Bedford Hills, was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor, and was released on $300 bail to return to Bedford Town Court on June 21.
