Supervisor Chris Burdick called the former longtime Bedford resident and retired president of the Lloyd Bedford Cox Inc. insurance brokerage firm, whose passing at 85 was announced this week, a "tremendous contributor to the Bedford community."
Cox's family business, insurance agency Lloyd Bedford Cox Inc. (LBC), is located in the heart of downtown Bedford Hills, at 2 Depot Plaza.
Burdick, who knew Cox well, added, "He was a consummate gentleman who always tried to help and give of himself, which he did with great generosity and quite freely."
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 16 at St. Matthew's Church in Bedford.
Town Clerk Boo Fumagalli, who is also vice president of the Bedford Hills Neighborhood Association (BHNA), said that Cox was "very dedicated" and "involved" in Bedford Hills. As examples of Cox's role in the hamlet, Fumagalli cited involved with the fire department and the chamber of commerce.
Councilman Don Scott called Cox a "pillar" of the community and added that he will be "deeply missed."
LBC was founded in 1921 and has been a family owned business for three generations, according to the company's website.
