KATONAH, N.Y. Dorothy Anne Sebesta of Katonah died Thursday, Aug. 16, at Westchester Medical Center after a brief illness. She was 91.
She married Joseph Sebesta on Aug. 2, 1947. They were married for 41 years before his death in 1988. Dorothy Sebesta received a bachelor's degree from Barnard College and worked as an occupational therapist.
She returned to school to pursue a degree in special education. She graduated from Columbia Teachers College in 1957 with a master's degree and worked for the Southern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services until her retirement in 1986.
She loved being a teacher and her students meant the world to her, Sebesta's family said. She also enjoyed singing in her church choir and was an avid gardener. Sebesta was a past president of the Katonah Civic Club and member of the Bedford Women's Club and Westchester Federation of Women's Clubs.
She is survived by a brother, Robert (Connie) Whitaker of Kissimmee, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Ray Palmere of West Orange, N.J.; and 20 nieces and nephews. Sebesta was predeceased by two sisters, Rosemarie Williams and Isabel Palmere; and a brother-in-law, Ray Williams.
Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Mount Kisco. Memorial donations may be made to Children's Scholarship Fund, 8 W. 38th St., Ninth Floor, New York, NY 10018.
