Arthur E. Peterson, 95, Longtime Katonah Resident, Educator

KATONAH, N.Y. - Arthur E. Peterson, a longtime resident of Katonah, died March 23. He was  95.

Peterson was born to Carl A. and Anna (Anderson) Peterson. He graduated from White Plains High School in 1935 and was one of the first men to graduate from Westchester School of Nursing in 1938. He was an alumnus of NYU, where he earned both Bachelor's and Master's degrees.

A lifelong educator specializing in math and science, he returned to Westchester School for Nursing as an instructor, and also taught for BOCES in Yorktown.

He served as a pharmacist's mate in the Navy during World War II. He volunteered for the Katonah Boy Scouts and the American Red Cross, was a member and past president of the Katonah Lions Club, and a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church and Vasa Order of America.

Peterson is survived by his wife, Barbara Bennett Peterson; son, Attorney James A. Peterson of Swampscott, Mass.; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews; many family members and friends; and former students. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Carl A. Peterson Jr., and John Norman Peterson; and aunt, Mabel Anderson Wallin of White Plains.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 18 at 12 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasantville.
