Wipe Your Paws Teaches Old Dogs New Tricks

When Cristina Farenga decided to open her own dog shop she knew that Mt Kisco was the place to do it. "Dogs are a part of the family around here," she said. "People just love their dogs."

Now, nearly a year later, Wipe Your Paws, located at 225 North Bedford Road, is helping dogs from around town stay properly groomed and obedient.

The shop caters almost entirely to dogs. They have full grooming services and doggy-daycare, as well as upscale retail and high quality dog food. Wipe Your Paws also has obedient classes for both puppies and adult dogs. The puppy classes focus on teaching the dogs basic commands such as sit, stay and come. It also familiarizes puppies with being on a leash, something that can be difficult for young dogs to become comfortable with.

One of the most important aspects of the puppy obedient classes is socialization. Because they are group lessons, the puppies learn to interact properly with other dogs. Like the puppy lessons, adult dog obedient classes teach the basic commands, but also allows time for new tricks and advanced commands. An old dog can be taught new tricks according to Farenga and her team.

For Farenga, having an experienced animal trainer like Jamie Viezbicke on their team is very helpful. "She is very good at working with the animals but also the owners," Farenga said. "A lot of this is about training people to train their dogs."

Wipe Your Paws is currently registering for their next set of six classes, beginning on June 22 and ending on July 27th. Puppy classes are on Wednesdays at 7:15pm, while adult dog classes are on Tuesdays at 7:15pm. The cost for all six classes is $250.
