Vendors Offer Holiday Shoppers a Local Alternative

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y.— Holiday shopping is in full swing and shoppers are searching to find the best deals on the best items around.

Local vendors might not be the first thought for those shoppers, which is why Denise Bednarcyk of Health Potato coordinated the Holiday Boutique at Kim’s Bagel Café in Mount Kisco. The boutique, which was held Sunday, brought together local business owners to Kim’s Bagel Shop to show off their items.

“If your mom likes jewelry you can get a bracelet. If you want Tupperware, then there’s that,” said Bednarcyk , the founder of Health Potato, one of the businesses on display. “There’s a little something for everybody.”

Not only was it a chance for locals to put the finishing touches on their holiday shopping, it also gave the vendors a chance to show the community what they are developing.

“It gives the small independent business owner a chance to get out into the public and let other people know that there are people out there who have started a business and are trying to develop it,” said Suzanne Demarco, an independent creative partner at Initials, Inc. “For me, I’m also recruiting people to join the business.”

The boutique ran from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, giving people like Susan Hentschel a chance to spread their entrepreneurial wings. Hentschel is an independent stylist for Stella and Dot, a boutique style jewelry company.

“It’s great to get to the locals, to get out there and join other people who are trying to accomplish what I’m trying to accomplish, which is spreading the love and just getting out there and making some contacts,” she said.

For vendors and shoppers who are looking for more, Bednarcyk said the future may hold a bigger and better boutique.

“My eye is possibly on a bigger venue in the Westchester area for next time.”
