BEDFORD, N.Y. Chef Jeremy McMillan was all smiles Sunday as his restaurant, The Barn at Bedford Post, kicked off Westchesters celebration of the sixth annual Hudson Valley Restaurant Week with a special brunch.
This is McMillans second restaurant week. For two weeks each year, patrons get to enjoy a special prix fixed menu at discounted prices at restaurants throughout the county and surrounding area.
The Barns ambiance captures what McMillan said is the spirit of Westchester dining, a community-driven feel. Restaurants act as gathering places for people, he said.
The restaurants that have been really successful have had that same philosophy. People arent trying to be very pretentious, he said. They want great quality, but they want it to be easy, simple and fun.
The restaurant is located at the Bedford Post Inn at 954 Old Post Road in Bedford. The inn also features a second restaurant: The Farmhouse, a more formal dining room, and is also home to a yoga studio.
According to a press release from sponsor The Valley Table, a culinary magazine, The Barn at Bedford Post is one of a record 107 restaurants participating in the event this year, out of more than 200 restaurants from seven counties.
Were really excited. It gives locals something different, it gives us something different, McMillan said. People from other towns will come down to enjoy the restaurants in Bedford, he added, which is great for the village.
McMillan said he recommends anything from the pastry case. He also said customers should make sure to try the Stracciatella, a creamy mozzarella from Puglia in southern Italy that has apples and walnuts inside.
Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino and his table were able to taste the lunch menu Sunday before its official release the next day.
Astorino said he had never been to the Barn at Bedford Post before and was enjoying himself.
The Bedford Post serves lunch on weekdays, brunch on weekends and dinner Monday and Tuesday evenings. The bakery is open daily.
All menus for Restaurant Week feature three-course lunches at a fixed price of $20.95 and dinners for $29.95. Tax and beverages are not included in the special price. For a list of other participating restaurants, go to the Hudson Valley Resaurant Week website or Westchester County Tourism online.
