Lisa Bonanno, director of events and communications for the SPCA, said the investigation remains ongoing.
Surveillance tapes from the parking lot show a woman pulling into a parking space on the afternoon of Monday, March 27. The white Persian was in a carrier she took from her car. The cat, in the carrier, was found a short time later, left behind in the parking lot, the SPCA said.
The cat had been severely neglected, with the hair so thickly matted all over his body, it interfered with his mobility as well as his bodily functions, the SPCA said. After being shaved by the veterinary team, the fur that came off of the cat weighed two pounds, the SPCA said.
The SPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement (HLE) Unit was notified about the abandoned cat and the condition in which he was found.
