Six Vie for Bedford Board of Education Vacancy

Six residents will be vying for a seat on the Bedford Central School District's Board of Education at a special meeting on October 19.

The six individuals applied for the chance to fill the unpaid trustee position on the board left vacant by Mark Chernis. Chernis resigned from his spot on the board last month to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest between his education technology job and his service to the Board of Education.

The six candidates include Andrew Bracco (Mount Kisco), Andrea Lynne Campbell (Mount Kisco), Lee Goldstein (Pound Ridge), David Hoffman (Bedford), Marie-Louise Scanlan (Bedford) and Gary Schwartz (Bedford).

“Our school district is fortunate to have so many district residents willing to volunteer on behalf of our school district,” said Susan Elion Wollin, board president.

Public interviews of all six candidates will take place at a special board meeting to be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Little Theatre of Fox Lane Middle School. The meeting will be televised on BCSD-TV and will be live streamed on the district's website.

The Board of Education is planning to appoint its newest member as soon as possible following an executive session. The winning candidate will serve on the board until the May 15, 2012 general school board election.
