Road Work to Begin Thursday on Route 22

BEDFORD, N.Y. – The New York State Department of Transportation will close lanes for road repaving on Route 22 starting Thursday at 7 a.m., the agency said.

The NYSDOT will close northbound and southbound lanes between West Lake Drive and Hillandale Avenue and between Rye Lake Bridge and Route 120. Only one lane will be open in each direction from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mondays to Saturdays, while the construction occurs.

The repaving is scheduled to run from Thursday until Thursday, Sept. 1. The original schedule had been  Wednesday to Wednesday, Aug. 31, however rain pushed back the start of the project, according to Melissa Slater, assistant to the regional director for the NYSDOT.

The NYSDOT expects heavy delays on Route 22 during the repaving and suggests that drivers consider alternate roads.

The press release advises caution for drivers travelling on the highway through the work zone during those hours. Traffic control devices, signs and flaggers will assist drivers in the area.

Fines double for those who speed through a work zone. Two such violations could lead to a suspended license.
