New Art Exhibition Can Be Therapeutic to Viewers

KATONAH-- Dr. John Diamond believes that art has a deeper purpose then decorating a wall; he thinks instead that art can help people who are suffering overcome their problems.  With this in mind, Diamond has created a collection, “Diamond Art: Spirit to Soul,” which aims to be therapeutic to viewers.

The Katonah Village Library is showing the holistic healer and artist’s work from July 6 to August 1.

Diamond graduated from Sydney University Medical School in 1957 and received his diploma in Psychological Medicine in 1962.

“All that matters to me as a healer is whether the art has healing power – and if it does, to what extent? How much does it actuate the innate healing power that we all possess? For I believe that the basic purpose of art always was, and still should be, to heal,” Diamond said.

Diamond’s work has been seen in galleries in the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Russia, Japan, Italy and Cyprus.

“Healing art is, as the ancient Chinese believed, ‘a wedding of spirit and matter,’ he said.  “And we are spirit and matter. The role of the artist-healer, of the healer as artist, is to so reveal this Basic Truth to us that we are at last whole.”

On Saturday, July 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m, a reception will be held at the library where Diamond will speak about his approach to art.

The Katonah Village Library is located at 26 Bedford Road of Katonah.
