BEDFORD HILLS, N.Y. - The New York State Lottery announced the name of a Bedford Corners Powerball player who won $10,000 in the drawing held July 16. Officials said the winner, Kirkmon Dolby, bought the winning ticket at D's Variety on Adams Street in Bedford Hills.
Nick DiLallo, owner of D's Variety in Bedford Hills, has watched a lot of people make a lot of money winning the lottery and scratch-off games during the past 10 years.
In 1990, a man who bought a lottery ticket from DiLallo came away $35 million richer. Four years ago, there was a man who won $6 million after playing the lottery at DiLallos shop.
More recently, someone won $10,000 last month playing the Mega Millions game.
They never come back, DiLallo said of the multi-million dollar winners his store has produced.
DiLallo said he doesnt get a percentage of the winnings. Instead, retailers get a percentage of the lottery game sales. However, that doesnt stop him from promoting how lucky some of the lottery players hes crossed paths with have been.
All the customers know, said DiLallo, whos owned the convenience store since 1968. If youre going to win, its here.
Proceeds from the state lottery are used to support education. The lottery contributed more than $3 billion in the 2010-2011 fiscal year to help support education in the state, according to lottery officials. The lottery's aid represents more than 15 percent of total state education funding to local school districts.
