Man Struck by Train in Croton-Harmon Survives

The man struck by a train Tuesday in Croton-Harmon’s train yard remains in critical condition, but has so far survived the encounter with the train, according to Metro-North official Marjorie Anders.

The man, Sanford Tabin, commonly known as Sandy, was swapping the engine on a train when the accident occurred. During an engine swap, this one for maintainence, Metro-North uses a locomotive known as a “switching locomotive.”

It was during this switch that Tabin was struck by the train. Tabin was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center by Life Net of New York. Tabin is a 55-year-old train mechanic who has been working with Metro-North for 31 years. He lives in Kingston, N.Y.
