Library to Hold Fundraiser Amidst Budget Questions

KATONAH, NY-- The Katonah Village Library will be celebrating the “Day of the Dead” on Friday, as their annual fundraiser Dia de los Muertos will be held at the Bedford Historical Hall.

While the Mexican holiday will be a featured theme, the prominent premise of the night will be fundraising as many dollars as possible for the library. Library public relations director Michelle Walter said every dollar will be put to good use.

“We’re facing budget restraints, so it’s more important than ever to get support,” she said.

The Town Board recently brought in the libraries for budget discussions, asking them about what ways they could cut some of their individual budgets for the upcoming year.

While the consensus of the meeting was that the libraries would wait for the board’s numbers first, the Katonah Village Library declared that they will be closing on Sundays in the next year regardless of what numbers the Town Board brings to the table.

Even with the budget talk, Walter is still hopeful that the night will be like last year’s success, one filled with dinner, dancing, and support.

"It was a major fundraising event last year and a wonderful success, the community turned out to support us last year, and we hope the community does come out again and support us," she said.

The night will include many refreshment choices, along with a live band with dancing. One of the main events is the auction, led by David Gernert, a “former trustee and accomplished auctioneer,” the library’s website says. Tickets can be purchased at the door, and the night will begin at 7 p.m. and go until 9:30 p.m.
