Katz on Senate Campaign: No Comment

YORKTOWN, N.Y. – In response to rumors that he would be dropping his campaign for the District 40 state Senate seat currently held by fellow Republican Greg Ball, District 99 Assembly member Steve Katz (R-Yorktown) released a statement Monday afternoon saying he had no announcement to make on the matter.

“My campaign received numerous inquiries regarding the state of my candidacy," Katz said in the statement.  "At this time, we are not ready to issue any information, nor provide a statement regarding our future plans. I continue to work diligently on behalf of all of my constituents. My campaign will keep you informed as events warrant.”

Ball handily won the endorsement of district leaders in Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester counties last month, leaving many to speculate that Katz may drop his bid and concentrate on winning another term in the state Assembly. Republican Dario Gristina of Putnam Valley has already announced he intends to run for the 99th Assembly seat, for which no Democrat has yet announced an intention to run.

Katz announced in March he would try to unseat Ball in the state Senate 40th District.

Following Katz’s Senate race announcement, Ball’s chief of staff and campaign manager said Katz was pulling a “Benedict Arnold.” Later, during his own reelection announcement, Ball said he was not worried about a potential primary against Katz and that he would pull out a strong win.

In February, Katz's wife Nicole released a video entitled "The Salad Bully" after she said Ball unfriended her on Facebook when she posted some critical comments about him. While the video doesn't mention Ball specifically, it parodied what Nicole Katz said was "silencing" after her comments were removed from his social media page.

Ball’s camp responded to her video by saying social media is not his primary focus and that it is run mostly by his campaign staff.
