Help Stock The Montrose VA Hospital Food Pantry

PEEKSKILL -- Nine ShopRite supermarkets in Westchester are joining forces in organizing a food drive in support of the food pantries at the Veteran’s Association (VA) hospitals in Montrose and Castle Point.

The effort will be supported by members of local veterans organizations on Saturday July 2, greeting shoppers with a menu of the items needed to stock the shelves of the VA food pantries. Below is a copy of the shopping list that the veterans will be sharing with shoppers on July 2:

Milk (cans/powdered) Jelly/peanut butter Canned meats/Vienna Sausages, Meatballs Tuna fish/salmon Hot/cold cereals Can/bottle Juices Instant potatoes Canned fruits/apple sauce Snacks/nuts/raisins/chips/cookies.

Area residents can also stop by and donate money towards the cause. The VA food pantry receives $3 worth of food for every dollar they spend when they purchase from the Food Bank of Westchester. Participating ShopRite stores are located in White Plains, Bedford Hills, Scarsdale, Croton, Thornwood, Tuckahoe, New Rochelle, Yonkers and Peekskill.

Other stores are also expected to join the effort. The Food Pantries at the VA at Montrose and Castle Point, Hudson Valley Healthcare System, are open to veterans and their families who need assistance. The Food Pantries also serve families of deployed New York State and National Guard soldiers who have left their children in the care of family members.
