Hayworth: Entire District Eligible To Apply For Storm Aid

SOMERS, N.Y.  -- All residents within the 19th Congressional District are eligible to apply for individual assistance to help with recovery from damage caused by Tropical Storm Irene, according to the offices of Rep. Nan Hayworth.

“I successfully requested that President Obama grant maximal disaster assistance, for both individuals and our local governments, to our counties,” said Hayworth in a statement released Monday.  “And recently, with my support, Congress approved $2.65 billion to fund FEMA, which fully takes care of current needs, according to the agency.”

Homeowners have 60 days after each storm to apply for FEMA assistance, according to Hayworth.  This can include both grants, which do not have to be repaid, and low-interest loans. Staff will help answer questions and provide guidance in applying for FEMA, SBA and USDA disaster assistance programs.

Hayworth said she is a co-chair of the Hurricane Irene Coalition, which was founded by Rep. Peter Welch of Vermont. The goal of the coalition is to facilitate prompt provision of all relevant federal aid for immediate recovery, Hayworth said, and to assure for the long term that local, state, and federal agencies work together to mitigate or prevent the severe damage experienced from Irene when the next bad storm hits.

District residents with questions or who are experiencing difficulties with applying for aid can call Hayworth’s offices at (845) 206-4600.  Hayworth has offices in Fishkill, Goshen and Somers.  You can also visit her website at
