WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Nan Hayworth has declared victory in her Independence Party primary bid against U.S. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney.

The following message was posted on Hayworth's campaign Facebook page: "VICTORY! Tonight we won (and won big!) the crucial Independence Party Primary! We went head-to-head against Sean Maloney, and despite the millions of dollars of outside support he's received, the passion and energy of our supporters won the day. Thank you to all of the voters and volunteers who made this victory possible. On to November!"

Unofficial results from the state Board of Elections show that Hayworth leads the primary with 729 votes to 649 for Maloney.

The congressional district straddles Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess and Orange counties. In Westchester, it includes all of Somers, Lewisboro, North Salem, Bedford and Pound Ridge, along with parts of New Castle, Yorktown and North Castle.

Maloney, a Cold Spring Democrat, has conceded, according to LoHud. Hayworth, according to LoHud, avoided a Republican primary, which means that she will face Maloney again in November. Hayworth, a Bedford resident and former congresswoman, was defeated by Maloney in 2012. The Independence Party ballot line was not used in that election, according to results.
