Governor Cuomo Endorses Harckham for Re-election

Gov. Andrew Cuomo endorsed Westchester County Legislator Peter Harckham in Harckham’s re-election bid for the County Board of Legislators in the 2nd legislative district, which includes Lewisboro,Pound Ridge, Bedford,Somers,Mount Kisco and North Salem.

In 2007, then-Attorney General Cuomo endorsed Harckham in his successful bid for election to the board of Legislators against Peter Michaelis. Harckham, who is again facing Michaelis, also serves as the board’s majority leader.

“I’m endorsing Pete Harckham because he has a proven record in responsibly reducing taxes and spending while protecting Westchester’s families and public health and safety,” Cuomo said. “His environmental record is unsurpassed. We need his continued vision and work ethic in the Westchester County Legislature.”

As part of his accomplishments, Harckham noted that last year the county returned a $67 million surplus to the fund balance and the budget was passed in a bipartisan fashion. He pointed out that taxes were cut by 2.2 percent, the board cut spending by $30 million and reduced the size of the county workforce by 10 percent, saving an additional $30 million annually.

“I am honored that the Governor of New York has recognized the hard work I have put into successfully downsizing county government,” Harckham said. “I look forward to the opportunity to continue the meet the challenges ahead.”
