Republican Leader Maisano Endorses Michaelis in Primary

BEDFORD, N.Y. - Friends, family and local elected officials gathered at the Katonah Gazebo on Tuesday as County Legislator and Republican Minority Leader, Jim Maisano (New Rochelle), officially endorsed Peter Michaelis for the 2nd District Seat on the Westchester County Board of Legislators.

Michaelis is facing a primary challenge September 13 by Republican Lisa Douglas for the position currently held by Democratic Westchester County Legislator Peter Harckham.

Among the political supporters were Bedford GOP Chairman Don Scott, Lewisboro Supervisor Charles Duffy, Bedford Town Supervisor Lee Roberts, Bedford Town Clerk Boo Fumagalli, and former County Legislator Ursula LaMotte.

Maisano pointed out that Michaelis had been chosen at the GOP convention, after all candidates were interviewed, and he reinforced their choice of Michaelis as a candidate for District 2 of the Legislature.

“The entire party feels that way,” he said. “He is the best candidate and he has the best chance to win on election day. He stands for fiscal responsibility, reducing the size of the county government and reducing county taxes.

“He knows District 2 really well. He lives here, he’s raised his family here, and he’s been involved in many civic groups," Maisano added. "He can represent not just the Republican voters in this district. He can represent all the voters.”

Michaelis thanked Maisano for his support. “Your confidence means a great deal to me. I look forward to being on your team and to creating a common sense legislature. The Democrats have been standing in the way of Executive Astorino’s reforms."

“For the last four years, Westchester County has ranked as the highest taxed county in America. I want Westchester to be a place where we can all afford to live.”

When asked by a member of the audience about his attitude toward the Tea Party, Michaelis responded, “I’ll be happy to have anyone’s support.”

Both Michaelis and Maisano urged all Republicans to rally and get out and vote next Tuesday.
