Douglas Endorsed by FreedomWorks

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - Candidate Lisa Douglas, who is challenging Peter Michaelis for the District 2 County Legislature nomination at Tuesday’s Republican primary, has been endorsed by FreedomWorks

In a press release, FreedomWorks President and CEO Matt Kibbe wrote:

“We have been impressed with Lisa Douglas’s hard work and dedication for the cause of lower taxes, less government and more freedom. FreedomWorks has worked with Lisa and is excited to see her involved in the political process in Westchester County. We look forward to seeing her make a big impact for taxpayers by joining Rob Astorino in fighting President Obama’s overreaching HUD and their unlawful demands. We know Lisa will stand in the way of allowing Westchester to be the test case for Mr. Obama. The smart vote on Tuesday, September 13th, is for Lisa Douglas.”

Douglas, a resident of North Salem, is a former member of the School Board and founder of the Hudson Valley Patriots, a local Tea Party group.

FreedomWorks was organized in 2004, a result of the merger between Citizens for a Sound Economy and Empower America. The FreedomWorks website states that its philosophy represents “less government, lower taxes and more freedom.” FreedomWorks is often allied with the Tea Party.

North Salem resident Howard Hellwinkel said that the FreedomWorks “decision was based on Douglas's long time involvement in the cause of supporting free market economics and her tireless effort of working with grass roots groups who believe government has out grown its initial mandate.

“In addition FreedomWorks expressed a concern about the other Republican candidate, Mr. Peter Michaelis, making $1,000.00 financial contributions to president Obama's 2008 election campaign.”
