WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. This year's title of tastiest water in Westchester County goes to the Cortlandt Consolidated Water District.
As part of National Drinking Water Week, more than 200 taste testers gathered outside the Westchester County office building on Martine Avenue on Tuesday to sample water from nine municipalities across the county.
Cortlandt received a total of 45 votes or a 22 percent approval rating. The runner-up was Greenburgh Consolidated Water District with 40 votes, or 20 percent, while Elmsford came in third, with 27.
Among those on hand for the tasting was Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino. "They're all good," he noted. "Westchester's very lucky to have terrific water supplies throughout the county."
Other municipalities whose water was sampled included White Plains, New Rochelle, Peekskill, Yonkers, New Rochelle, Ossining Village and Westchester County District No. 3.
This was the first ever win for Cortlandt. Last year, United Water New Rochelle got the most thumbs-up. Ossining was the winner in 2010, Yonkers in 2009 and Croton-on-Hudson in 2007.
Not only does Cortlandt have bragging rights thanks to the win. It will now compete in a statewide championship for best tasting water, and could then move on, potentially, to the nationwide contest for best tasting water.
