If you live in or around Mount Kisco and want to shop for clothes from local designers, the Beehive Co-Op in Mount Kisco is a sure-fire destination.
Local designers can rent a section of the store each month to sell their wares. A small percentage of the money made goes towards sustaining the store, while the rest goes to the designer. The Co-op is a group of independent designers who collective show their work at the Beehive, Jackie Frankstone, a local designer, said. About 70 percent are local designers who are mostly from the Northern Westchester area.
The shop has been open for two years but the original store was founded in Atlanta in 2004 by Petra Geiger. After having great success in Atlanta and nationally, Geiger relocated to New York State and brought the idea of the Beehive Co-Op with her. Now nearly 150 designers benefit by having their works seen locally..
The shop is good for increasing visibility of local designers not only by making sales but allowing them to interact with local costumers as well, Franstone said. About a dozen designers take part in running the store, she said. The designers that help work the store have a discounted percentage they pay back to the shop.
Franstone has been showing her line Stone + Mann in the Beehive Co-Op for a year and a half. She also works in the shop on Fridays. The Beehive Co-op is located at 337 Main St and the website does have an on-line section.
