Bedford Seeks District Audit Committee Members

The Bedford Central School District is accepting applications for two community members to serve on the district’s Audit Committee.

 

The Audit Committee is comprised of five members, three of which are Board of Education members. The mission of the committee, is “to ensure the District’s fiscal accountability by providing independent assistance to the Board of Education in the Oversight of the external and internal audits.”

 

The committee is looking for individuals that have accounting, financial reporting or school district financial experience or expertise. Individuals who are employees of the district, have provided goods or services to the district within that last two years or have an immediate family member that is somehow involved with providing goods to the district are not allowed to serve on the committee.

 

The duties of the audit committee include overseeing the external auditor,“interviewing the external auditor, claims auditor and the internal auditor for the district; meeting with the external auditor, the claims auditor and the internal auditor before and after their audits and reviews,” according to the website.The full list of duties can be found on the application.

 

The community members of the committee serve for a two-year period. Each new member must take the district’s oath of office and therefore become school district officers.
