Bedford Police Investigate Impostors, DWIs

BEDFORD, N.Y. -- The Bedford Police department dealt with an impersonating pair of citizens last week. Police were notified that two people claimed to be from Westchester County Public Safety in a Bedford home’s driveway, according to Lieutenant Jeffrey Dickan of the Bedford Police Department.

On Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 9:45 p.m., police were notified that two unknown females in a white Honda Accord were in a driveway on Summit Road in Katonah, said Lt. Dickan. Once the resident went to the driveway to check on the car and ask why it was parked there, the two females, both black and around age 50, flashed a badge of some kind and claimed they were from the Westchester County Police.

Once the resident went back inside to notify the police of the suspicious vehicle, the car sped off without giving the resident a chance to identify the license plate. After responding to the scene, Bedford police acknowledged they could not identify anyone in the area resembling the two females, Dickan said. The police could go no further in an investigation without a license plate number.

Guzman, who was driving at 1:20 a.m., was driving in and out of the single lane on Bedford Road in Bedford. Officers initially identified his car and followed it because the headlights were not turned on, and continued to follow the vehicle until they pulled Guzman over. Guzman submitted to a field test, which he failed, and then blew a 1.6 percent blood alcohol content, which is twice the legal limit. He was brought in and held for $100 bail, and asked to go to court on Feb. 2.

After traveling on Green Lane, an officer began to follow the car closely and witnessed Byrns attempt to turn onto McLain Road. After attempting the turn, Byrns drove onto the earth embankment on the right side of the road, after which the officer officially investigated. After finding another person in the vehicle, the officer then conducted the field test for Byrns, which she failed, and then brought her back to headquarters to take the BAC test, which she registered at 2.4 percent, or three times the legal limit. Byrns was released on $100 bail and will be returning to court on Feb. 2.
