Bedford PD Chief Included in Missing Child Seminar

BEDFORD HILLS, N.Y. — Bedford Police Chief William Hayes recently returned from near the nation’s capitol, as he was invited to and subsequently took part in the Chief Executive Officer Training Seminar at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in Alexandria, Va.

Hayes was with the center for a two-day session at the end of January for a specifically designed training seminar for law enforcement executives and 911 emergency managers, according to a press release from Hayes. The program was the 131st of its kind, and invited 50 other officials from around the country.

The seminar is given to help those in attendance better understand the process of searching for missing persons and sexually exploited children. Specifically, the session focuses on how to search for a child who is reported missing, which is one of the most critical time-management opportunities of an officer’s career, according to the press release.

“This has been one of the most valuable experiences for me in my 25 years as a law enforcement officer,” Hayes said. “To have been selected in itself was an honor, but to be able to bring this knowledge home and put it into practice is a plus for the citizens of our community.”

There have been more than 5,000 officials in history who have gone through the two-day program. The training, according to Hayes, is to teach best practices for call takers, responding officers, investigators and command staff of the police department.
