The film will mark the directorial debut of Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister. Mara, through her Twitter account, said she was “Excited" about the new project.
According to a description on IMDb, “Transcendence” will tell the story of two leading computer scientists who are working toward “technological singularity,” while an anti-technology company opposes their efforts to create a world where computers are more capable than the human brain.
While it is unknown what role Mara will play, Indiewire speculated that she could portray a member of a terrorist group referred to in the script as the “tattooed baker.”
Mara will have her hands full in the month ahead, as she recently told Newsday Westchester that the second season of Netflix’s hit original series “House of Cards” will begin filming in the spring.
“Transcendence” will start shooting this April for a April 2014 release date.
