Annual Bedford Halloween Parade Canceled Due To Storm

BEDFORD, N.Y. – Bedford's annual Halloween parade scheduled for Wednesday has been canceled because of the dangerous conditions arising from Hurricane Sandy, according to the Bedford Police.

Town officials also recommend that children do not trick-or-treat Wednesday as roads have not yet been cleared of downed wires and fallen trees.

New York State Electric & Gas spokesperson Jim Salmon said utility workers are currently in the process of turning off the electricity in the "hundreds, if not thousands" of downed live wires throughout Westchester in what is called the "make safe" process. After this, trees can be removed by Bedford's Department of Public Works and the lines repaired.

Salmon did not give an estimated restoration time for Bedford, but said workers were moving quickly from town to town doing their best to fix the situation as soon as possible.

As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, all but seven of the 6,657 NYSEG customers in Bedford are still without power since the storm.
