'Treat' Lures Lewisboro Teens With Sweetness

A customer driving by the Cross River Shopping Center could miss Treat Frozen Yogurt, given that it is located just behind D'Agostino Supermarket, the largest store on the lot. Fortunately for those looking for the store, there is a small chalkboard pointing out the little hideaway where kids from John Jay High School come to relax.

Mike Harris, 19, the assistant manager of Treat Frozen Yogurt and a former John Jay student, said the tasty snacks and young employees appeal to the students.

"Most of the staff is really young," Harris said.

Customers and staff refer to the store simply as "Treat," which is also how it's identified on uniforms and signs. The store has the market cornered in the plaza as far as deserts go. Although other stores in the vicinity offer casual and fine dining -- ranging from Italian restaurants to Asian cuisine -- Treat Frozen Yogurt is the only eatery that just has deserts. The parfaits are particularly popular, Harris said.

While the store is a hangout for kids, other items lure adults. One such treat is the coffee a la mode, a mix of coffee with a frozen yogurt topping. Harris' favorite item on the menu is the double hot supreme, which makes for a good caffeine fix, he said.

Businesswoman Lisa Pizzurro owns the store. Harris knew Pizzurro prior to getting his job in January and is happy to have a place to work and see his peers, he said.

"Everyone gets along," Harris said.
