We're NYC Marathon Runners: Tricia and Carl Steinmann, Croton

NEW YORK, NY - On Sunday, over 40,000 people from across the globe will be taking part in the New York City Marathon. We'll be profiling several Westchester runners in the days leading up to the big race.

Among those running from Westchester are Tricia and Carl Steinmann of Croton. The couple got interested in running four years ago when their last daughter was born and have completed several races including six half marathons. New York is their first full marathon.

"My husband decided since we were doing half marathons he really wanted to do the New York Marathon and since running is my sport I wasn't going to let him do it without me," said Tricia, 36, a Queens native.

The couple ran the nine New York Road Runners Club races required for automatic entry to the marathon and have prepared accordingly even with the challenge of having three young children at home.

"It was really difficult at times but we did all the runs we were supposed to do," Tricia said. "At one point I was running around the perimeter of our property while my kids counted off the laps just to get my run in and my husband was putting on a headlamp and getting out in the morning before work and hoping a deer didn't get in his way or that a car didn't hit him."

Her husband, 35, is a life-long Croton resident and a 1994 Croton-Harmon High School graduate. He said that while he competed in sports in high school and college and played lacrosse in an adult league he found that he really enjoyed running even though finding the time to run was tough.

"I wasn't much of a runner until Tricia got me into it but I enjoy it very much," Carl said. "It brings back the competitive spirit for me, which I like."
