Northern Westchester Hospital Gala Co-Chair Eagerly Accepts Role

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. – When a friend asked Lisa Shrewsberry about the possibility of serving as co-chair for Northern Westchester Hospital’s annual gala benefit, she accepted without hesitation.

Now, she and co-host Daphne Viders are putting the final details in place for the benefit, which will be held Nov. 2 at Saw Mill Club in Mount Kisco. Tickets and sponsorships are available, and can be purchased online. The theme for the gala, which supports new operating rooms at Northern Westchester, is Soirée à Paris.

“A friend of mine reached out to me about being the co-chair, and I was happy to do it,’’ Shrewsberry said. “We’ve supported the event for years and we’ve always been big supporters of the hospital. It’s such a great place. When we first moved to the area, it was one of the things that drew us. It’s so warm and inviting.”

Shrewsberry, an attorney for New York-based law firm Traub Lieberman Straus & Shrewsberry, LLP, said her appreciation for the hospital is rooted in a childhood history that created an awareness of health issues.

“My mother had juvenile diabetes, so going to the hospital with her on a steady basis was part of my childhood," she said, "It was not inviting, there was no wellness outreach and there was very little support for her to manage her disease. Northern Westchester does all of those things. It would have made a huge difference in my life as I was growing up to have that kind of support. I love that my kids don't fear going to the hospital, and they feel like it is a welcoming part of their community."

Shrewsberry and Viders lead a committee of 14 people who have gone over every detail for the gala. The group decided early on to embrace a Paris theme, and every aspect of the event features a French twist.

“Everybody agreed pretty quickly,’’ Shrewsberry said. “I don’t think there was any disagreement. I was pleasantly surprised by how well the group works together.”

Paul Shaffer, the long-time musical sidekick to David Letterman, will be the master of ceremonies for the gala. The honorees will be Anita Grover, MD., and Bruce and Andrea Yablon.

Shrewsberry, with a demanding career, family and outside interests, felt the gala was an important function to support as the co-chair, and she’s glad she did.

"I think it is important to have a true community hospital,’’ she said. "It is essential for all of us to give back, and this is a cause for which I was happy to make the time."
