KATONAH, N.Y. - Whats your favorite part of visiting New York City? Is it the music? The art? The Statue of Liberty?
At Free Arts Day on Sunday, Dec. 4, the Katonah Museum of Art's Executive Director Neil Watson says its latest exhibition, New York, New York! The 20th Century will depict the city through the eyes of the most notable artists in recent history.
Its a snapshot of a culture. Our programs define themselves by what we are presenting in the exhibition, he said.
The theme of the main collection, which describes 100 years of photographers, painters and sculptors using New York as their muse, lends itself to all kinds of artistic mediums. For one, the 35 illustrations of Storied City: New York in Picture Book Art sidelining the main exhibition compliments it by creating what Watson calls two bookends of how you approach New York City.
Since we dont have a permanent collection like some other museums do, we can organize exhibitions around time periods and cultures, he added.
Westchester residents coming out for ArtsWestchester's Free Arts Day will also be treated to the sweet sounds of classical music by tenor saxophonist Leo Johnson. The live performance is free to the public.
Mt. Kiscos Ladle of Love and Café of Love will contribute be selling some of their greatest farm-to-truck soups, stews, salads and sandwiches in the Museums Sculpture Garden throughout the afternoon. The Love on the Run truck is custom designed and fully electric.
