Deb Coffino calls Northern Westchester Hospital the central hub of her family. Its the place where her husband was recently named Doctor of the Year, her kids have been treated for injuries and she serves as treasurer for the fundraising group, the Twigs of Northern Westchester Hospital.
The Chappaqua resident is taking that connection a bit further this May by planning the hospitals first annual FitQuest. The event, held at Chappaqua Crossing, will feature a family-friendly obstacle course with activities for elementary school-aged children and their parents.
What a great idea for everybody to get out and do something together, she said. We also want to communicate the message of the hospital, which is to get well and stay well.
In many ways, Coffino says thats why all Westchester residents should have a connection to Northern Westchester Hospital. Its a nonprofit organization that relies on community support.
We want to fundraise but we also want to raise awareness that this is a community hospital, she added.
One of Coffinos first steps to sign up participants for FitQuest was to spread the word to Parent-Teacher Associations at local districts, including Katonah-Lewisboro, Lakeland, Yorktown and North Salem. As a bonus, Northern Westchester Hospital will offer financial grants to the top four school districts that get the most people to sign up or raise the most money for the hospital.
Coffino says her third-grade twins, Rafe and Cate, are excited for FitQuest and are already mulling over team names. They are also excited to participate in a certain "Angry Bird" toss activity, of which she cant yet disclose the details.
My personal goal is for this to be the most important fundraising event the hospital has, and I think it has the juice to do that in such a young community, she said.
